The national flag of Canada was inaugurated on February 15, 1965. The anniversary of this date is officially called the “National Flag of Canada Day”, which is often shortened to “Flag Day”.
We’ve got a rather young flag. Think about that for a few minutes. Our worldwide recognized red maple leaf is only 55 years old. (Prior to 1965, we were flying the Royal Union Flag.) Though this date, February 15th, is not a statutory holiday, there are many who would like to have it officially placed in the national holiday list. I know what my thoughts are on another statutory holiday. What do you, the reader think on this idea?
